OUR COACHING TEAM 2008 / 09

Ken Blackburn – Club Chairman and Under 18 Coach

One of the best known names in local youth football, Ken’s playing career took him to Brighton and Bristol Rovers. Ken joined Gloucester City after a successful spell with Gloucester Primary Schools and was instrumental in the setting up of Gloucester City Youth Development. Along with Warren Evans, Kenny has been responsible for a steady stream of young players coming out of the youth side to become established members of the First Team squad. Under his guidance in recent years the Under 18 squad have won the Midland Floodlit League and the County Cup as well as reaching the final of the Midland Floodlit League Cup and coming runners up in the County Cup. His sides have also performed with great credit in the FA Youth Cup, particularly this season when we battled through to the First Round before eventually being knocked out by Swansea City. 

 Fred Gittings – Under 18 Coach

A hugely experienced Coach, Fred presently manages not only a Gloucester City Youth Development squad but also a Gloucester City Ladies squad as well. Fred, who represented Gloucester City in his youth, is a great role model for his players.

Kevin Willets – Under 16 Coach

One of the best in the business, Kevin joined Gloucester City Youth at the start of the 2007 / 08 season. Kev had a distinguished playing career as a player at Kidderminster Harriers, Cheltenham Town and Gloucester City. On retiring from the game he was Assistant Manager at Witney Town and Cirencester Town. An excellent and innovative Coach, Kevin joined us from Cheltenham Town youth.

Darren Manley – Under 15 Coach

 Darren is fast building a reputation as one of the most up and coming youth coaches in the area. In his three year spell with City he has guided the Under 12s to the Midland Junior Premier League title and the Under 13s to the AMROS cup semi final. Darren played for Gloucester City as a member of Brian Godfrey’s very successful squad.

Nick Housden - Under 15 Coach

Nick joined Gloucester City during 2007 / 08 and will be assisting Darren Manley with the Under 15 squad.  A young man, Nick brings with him an impressive array of coaching qualifications and has made a great impression on the club during his first season.

Keith Hardcastle – Under 14 Coach

Keith started his football career as a full time professional at Bristol City. In 1978 he joined Cheltenham Town where he played a 100 first team games and scored 8 goals. From Whaddon Road, Keith moved onto Forest Green where he played in the famous squad that won the FA Vase at Wembley and also the Hellenic Premier League. Keith also played for Shortwood United where he was part of the team that won two Hellenic League titles. As a coach, Keith has an excellent CV. Ironically he started his coaching career attending the same course as current City boss Tim Harris. Keith ran the very successful Hucclecote CA team Under 9's to under 12's, managed Gloucester & Forest Schools for 3 years and spent a couple of seasons with the Cheltenham Town Youth team. Most recently Keith has been manager at Longlevens AFC.

Shayne Bradley – Under 13 Coach

One of the best players to have come out of the City in recent years. A former England schoolboy, Shayne signed for Premiership side Southampton in January 1998 after coming through the trainee ranks. He joined Mansfield Town for £100,000 in the summer of 2000 and later played for Chesterfield. An injury forced Shayne to retire early from the game, but he is starting to make the same impact as a Coach a he did as a player.

Tim Hall - Under 12 Coach

Tim is an experienced Coach who has recently passed his FA Level 2 Badge and is presently studying for his next qualificatoin.  A great role model who has in the past done a great job working wiuth the U16 and U18 squad, this season Tim will be working with the younger players.

NIGEL HUGHES - Meeting Chairman

An Executive Director of Gloucester City AFC, Nigel is responsible for overseeing the operation of GCAFCYD and linking back to the Executive Committee (which runs Gloucester City AFC on a day to day basis).  His main focus in the coming season is to help the club achive FA Chartered Standard status.  A long time supporter of City and a successful businessman, Nigel has a wide experience of working in youth football with Churchdown Panthers.

Andy Peyton – Secretary

A hugely experienced administrator , in particular with the Cheltenham League and a company director, Andy wide ranging role includes overseeing the clubs adherence to league rules and giving help and guidance to our team of match day secretaries.  Andy is also our link to the Press and the Gloucester City AFC Press Office.

David Miller - Vice Chairman, Treasurer, Youth Development Co-ordinator and Welfare Officer

A long time supporter of Gloucester City, David has worked in various capacities in the club for the last 10 years including a spell as First Team Assistant Secretary and for a brief period Chairman.  David's love of football started on Saturday November 15th 1969 when his father took him to his first live match;  Yeovil Town v Shrewsbury in the FA Cup.  The programme still hangs on his wall!  A spell watching Bristol Rovers with the occassional visit to Horton Road came to an end when David moved to Gloucester and started following the Tigers full time.  David's role is purely administrative and his motivation is to see City move up into the Conference playing in the City with a squad including many lads who have come through the youth ranks.
