Can't believe I am saying this but the sun came out as the match began adding the icing on the cake for what eventually became another fantastic game of football between these two very competitive teams. A strong start by the Gloucester side led to an early goal from a free kick by Callum Thomas going through the players legs and slipping neatly past the Nuneaton goalkeeper. Strong defending by both sides kept any other goals from breaking through past both goalkeepers until Nuneaton scored their only goal of the match in the 27th minute followed by a Gloucester goal put in the net by Joe Parker in the 42nd . The battle continued throughout the second half with both teams putting in some excellent individual performances. A special mention to Luke West from Nuneaton who was taken to hospital with an ankle injury which an x-ray later confirmed was a bad sprain. We wish him a speed recovery and hope he is back playing football soon. Many thanks to all the coaches and supporters from both sides.

A keenly contested game saw Gloucester take the lead after only 40 seconds. Boro struck back when a goalmouth scramble saw George Brindley chalk up his first for the club. It was all square at halftime 1-1. City stared the second half on the back foot when boro had an early spell of pressure. Gloucester took the lead for the second time after some great individual work. A great cross after some smoking hot footwork was met be a deft header and straight past the boro keeper. Boro equalised from some hard work by Sankey saw West score from close range. Nuneaton thought they had the points sown up when Harding got his first for the club from another corner. The visitors rightly got a point in the dying seconds. Again loose marking in the centre of the pitch allowed Harry Clutterebruck to work through to the edge of the box. His pass found a unmarked player unmarked and his chipped Powell making it all square. A great advert for Kids football |

Many thanks to the Burton Albion team, officials and parents for travelling all the way to the Forest for what proved to be an exciting match on a pitch somewhat spoilt by the recent bad weather. Burton started the match pushing forward and scoring their first goal within five minutes. Gloucester held their own, Jed Martin weaved his way through to try for goal but was closed down by Burton as he tried to open up gloucester's account. Burton kept up the pressure and would have scored a few more goals early on if it wasn't for the excellent skills of the gloucester goalkeeper, Jake Underwood. To be fair, Burton had the best of the first half putting two more goals in the net. Gloucester kept their heads up and Ben Simmonds cut inside two Burton players to pass to Joe Parker who took a magnificent shot at goal which the Burton goalkeeper kept out. Aidan Creighton picked up the pace and ran a good half of the pitch chasing down a Burton player and managed to push the ball to safety before Burton could convert the chance into a goal. By half time Burton were in the lead with three goals to nil. After an inspiring half time talk by the their coach Gloucester went back out onto the pitch with renewed energy and dominated the second half putting the pressure on Burton right from the start. Both teams had many shots which were too high, too wide etc and both teams tested the others goal keepers throughout the second half. A penalty given to Burton Albion gave them their fourth goal and a brilliant run by Ashley Brown down the wing resulted in a Gloucester goal . Both Burton Albion and Gloucester City should be proud of the way their players played today and how they conducted themselves on and off the pitch. |
